OUR watershed, OUR future, OURS to protect!
Lesser Slave Lake is the third largest lake in Alberta with a surface area of 1,160 km2. The Lesser Slave Watershed has long been the home and traditional territory of Indigenous people, as well as many communities and rural residents. The diverse landscape not only supports rich biodiversity but also provides economic value through agriculture, forest harvest, oil and gas extraction, recreation, and tourism.
The LSWC was recognized as the Watershed Planning and Advisory Council for the Lesser Slave watershed in 2007, and since then our Board of directors and staff have been working to gather data and report on the condition of our watershed, collaborate on watershed planning, educate and inform people of all ages on watershed function and stewardship of our watershed and collaborate on projects that enhance our watersheds resiliency.
