Getting students out on a field trip to explore water and nature firsthand is an enriching educational experience that goes beyond the confines of a classroom. It provides a tangible and immersive opportunity for students to observe the intricate ecosystems that rely on water, witness biodiversity in action, and understand the vital role water plays in sustaining life. The LSWC and the LEFES collaborate to provide in class and field trip experiences for youth across our watershed. The programs and directly linked to Alberta’s curriculum, making them a perfect fit for teachers. Programs are delivered at no cost to schools, by trained professional staff from both organizations.
Classroom programs include: X-stream Science, Erosion & Weathering, Freshwater Lifecycles, Water Chemistry, and MORE.

The LSFES, is a non-profit organization committed to forest focused environmental education. They offer curriculum related programs through hands-on field-trips and classroom presentations to schools and community groups.
Aligned with learning objectives identified in the Alberta Education’s Program of Studies at every grade level, Fish in Schools (FinS) acts as an experiential classroom-based learning tool to support the delivery of science and nature topics. This unique hands-on program provides Alberta schools with the opportunity to raise rainbow trout in their classrooms from egg to alevin and fry, then release the fish into a provincially-approved waterbody as a part of Alberta’s fish stocking program.

Fish in Schools is a provincial fisheries education program, delivered by Bow Habitat Station.
The LSWC is a proud supporter of the FinS program in our watershed.
